Kit Journal
week four

May 3 1998, 9am: We took some more photos today, the kits change so fast! Did our usual morning routine, meds, food, water, litter etc..

6pm: Pam and Beck came by today to see the kits, it was so nice to finally meet Beck. (She's from Australia) Li'l Honey handled the visit very well.

May 4 1998, 9am: A little off the topic, but sometime during the night Poltergeist gave birth, and apparently made a meal of her kits. When I entered the room this morning Li'l Honey was on the side of her cage closest to Polly hissing and chittering at her. I assume Li'l Honey heard the kits birth and demise and was protecting her own litter. I removed the remaining corpse and gave Polly some comfort and loves, she will be fine.

Midnight: Well I had a wonderful evening watching Alannah Myles' antics on stage and came home to an even more wonderful event. Moments after I arrived home, Trixie, (one of our Wherret jills), gave birth to 6 lovely kits. Li'l Honey has calmed down some since Polly's baby eating escapade.

May 5 1998, 10am: I am shocked at how quickly the kits grow, in 3 weeks plus, the size difference between these guys and a newborn kit is astounding. Two of Trixies kits passed on during the night, on closer examination one appeared poorly formed and the other was very small, one more is not doing well, but the remaining three seem fine. I will be reducing our posts to once or twice a day as things are fairly routine at the moment.

May 6 1998, 9am: Li'l Honeys kits are gradually losing their shaggy mane and getting chunkier, they are so much more aware than they were just a few days ago. Trixies little kit has survived another night and we are attempting to supplement him but he is not doing well and I can't seem to get him warm, the remaining three are doing very well.

May 7 1998, 10am: I was watching the kits as I cleaned the cage today and they seem to be playing! Their eyes are still closed and they are playing together, ferrets are SO cool!!

May 8 1998, 9am: The kits will be a month old tomorrow, I started them on a gruel today an they were quite eager to partake. I have to get more film the change in their appearance is amazing! Trixies little one passed on this morning, poor guy. The remaining three are doing well.

May 9 1998, 9am: YAY! The babies are one month old today !! And the eyes are beginning to open! They are playing and wrestling a bit, they seek out my hand when they smell me, and get outta the way when they get a whiff of that food.
