Kit Journal
week three

April 27 1998, 9am: Li'l Honey's teats appeared swollen today, I am going to sart her on sub Q injections of penicillin. The last thing we want is the mastitis to flare up again. The kits are still nurseing and seem to be inquisitive when I check them over now, They raise their heads and sniff at my fingers, and they will stop squeeking if I stroke their backs.

Noon: Sheena called and said that she couldn't make it to my place in her time scheduale, so Muriel and Calvin will be meeting her in Nanaimo and bringing the new arrivals on to my place. So the kits will still be haveing visitors today. I cleaned the litter box AGAIN, boy does she ever poop a lot, I gave her fresh water and food. I managed to avoid being bit, she was feeding her kits!

Midnight: Well Muriel and Calvin made it ! Our new arrivals made it safe and sound, (check the nursery for more details) our visit went well, although I tend to be a bit paranoid with Li'l Honey and strangers. She has been so nasty lately I am afraid she may cause serious harm. You ever notice how nobody listens when you caution people about a biter? It is almost as if they want to prove something like ' She may have tried to bite the last 50 people she met, but she wouldn't bite me!' My husband is a classic example of this! (grin)

April 28 1998, 9am: Li'l Honey is obviously showing signs of mastitis again. There is still milk flow and the kits are fat and healthy. I am going to continue bathing her belly and I will apply compress and pray that it helps. She is still on medication, but we may have to call the vet and have it changed.

6pm: We had another photo session today, are the kits ever changing rapidly, earlier I was seeing them everyday so Patrick would notice the changes sooner than I would. Now they are changing so rapidly I see a difference everyday. Their coats are darkening and the 4 with the darkening noses now have totally dark noses.

10pm: You may notice that our postings are intermittent. Please forgive me, we are very busy around here right now, be assured the journal is being kept up to date but I am not always able to post it online daily.

April 29 1998, 9am: Did our usual morning routine, medication, check the kits, clean the litter and freshen the water. The kits are so different! Their heads are shaggy and gray, while the rest of their bodies have short, rapidly darkening hair. Li'l Honeys teats have not improved but they have not worsened any either, and there is still milk flow.

8pm: I cleaned Li'l Honeys litter again. She sure is pooping alot! Everybody was fine, and the kits were quietly sleeping, I know I've said it before but I'll say it again, SO CUTE!!!

April 30 1998, 9am: We took some more pictures today, I was hopeing to have them posted by Saturday, but it will have to be Monday, because my husband is too damn cheap to pay the extra $ 5 to have them developed ( even though tomorrow is pay day! ) at least he's not too bad when I have to pay the vet!

Noon: This is SO cool, The kits are getting teeth!!! Little tiny, Sharp looking teeth. Just the canines are coming in right now, but real, mini teeth.

10pm: The swelling in Li'l Honeys teats has finally gone down some, I am going to keep her on the antibiotics until the kits are weaned to avoid further infection.

May 1 1998, 9am: Li'l Honeys swelling is now completely gone and she was not quite as nippy today, I changed the litter box and gave her fresh food and water, she seems to finally be getting used to our routine.

10pm: We did our bedtime check, the light is a little dim in the evening (We try to keep them in natural light) but I am sure I saw the beginings of a mask, I will have to check in the am.

May 2 1998, 9am: I was right! They are already getting masks! It was almost an overnight change, They no longer squeek at all when I pick them up and move them around. Their color changes daily and they are growing so fast!.

Noon: The babies had visitors today, these were people who have never been around ferrets so the kits got an "aw, cute!" but the main topic of conversation was, "Do all ferrets poop in the corner like that?"

The kits are 3 weeks old tonight!!
